It's National Dogs in Politics Day & National Checkers Day

Dogs play an important part in many of our lives.  When a President and his family moves into the White House, their pets come too. (FYI, President Trump has no pets.)  The first White House dog who caught the attending of newspapers was President Harding's dog, Laddie (an Airedale).  FDR had a Scottish Terrier named Fala.  President Nixon's dog Checkers turned the tide of Nixon's claim to VP on the ticket in 1952.  If you want to learn more about dogs in the White House and see their pictures, check out the Dogs of the White House post by spokesman.com

Speaking of Checkers, that's the game of the day.  Be king for a day if you can.

The picture is a statue of FDR & Fala that's in the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in Washington, D.C.
