It's Pentecost Sunday and Speak in Complete Sentences Day

On the original Pentecost, the disciples/apostles took to the streets, filled with the Holy Spirit, and spoke the truths of God in every language of those present.  I don't know if they spoke in complete sentences but their message certainly made an impact.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

It's National Creativity Day and My Bucket's Got a Hole in It Day

Well, if your bucket has a hole in it, you need to be creative.

Proverbs 20:5  The purposes of a person's heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.

My cup is neither half full nor half empty; my cup has a hole in it.  Hubby and I balance each other out so well because his cup is the magic baby bottle from my childhood that empties when turned upside down but refills when you turn it right side up.

The kids may enjoy singing along with poor Henry and Liza as they discover there's a hole in their bucket too.

It's National Biscuit Day & National Heat Awareness Day

Biscuits for breakfast - sausage, country ham, with gravy.
Biscuits for lunch - chicken
Biscuits for dinner - plain, Cheddar Bo (at Bojangle's).
Biscuits are so versatile.
Have a biscuit today.

I was thinking it's a little early for National Heat Awareness Day but it's a precautionary day.  Remember, as we enter into hotter weather, drink plenty of water and take breaks when you're out in the heat.

Genesis 8:22  As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.

Happy National Gray Day

I hope gray Day refers to the color and not the weather.

No ideas for meals today, but I do know what color to wear.  Does my hair count?

Why can this word be spelled gray and grey?  Gray is Americanized.  Grey is the common spelling in other English-speaking countries.

Here are some suggestions to celebrate gray day or grey day

Drink Earl Grey tea.

Read some gray literature.  Gray literature are things not formally published in books or journals.  Write a story, then read it to someone.  Read a brochure or blog - oh, wait, you are!

Watch your conversation today.  Gray area topics can be controversial.

Read "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde but I don't recommend reading "Fifty Shades of Gray as that book is inappropriate.

Sing "The Old Gray Mare."

Watch "The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit."  It's an old Disney movie starring Kurt Russell and Dean Jones.

Actually, the day was originally created to bring awareness to Brain Cancer so do things to keep your grey matter working, which includes use of muscles and emotions.

Psalm 71:18  Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare Your power to the next generation, Your might acts to all who are to come.

It's National Cherry Dessert Day

Check out these easy cherry dessert recipes.

Cherry Pie Filling Dump Cake that only has 3 ingredients by The Typical Mom.

Slow Cooker Cherry Dump Cake by Cincyshopper.

Mini Cherry Hand Pies using refrigerator pie dough on Copy Me That.

Air Fryer Cherry Hand Pies by The Domestic Rebel

Cherry Cheesecake Crunch Parfait by the Midnight Baker.

And last but not least, the most no-frills cherry dessert - fresh cherries.

Ecclesiastes 5:18  This is what I have observed to be good:  that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them - for this is their lot.

It's Memorial Day and Towel Day

Towel Day refers to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.  I watched the movie once, never read the book; it's not my taste.  But apparently, carrying a towel has some significance to the book.  My take on Towel Day is a reference to the day many pools usually open.  I heard this Summer some public pools will remain closed because they can't manage social distancing.  I hope our world is back to a better semblance of normal next Summer.  This Summer we will have to suffice with backyard pools and sprinklers.

Memorial Day.  A day to remember those military personnel who gave their lives to protect us and to celebrate their lives and sacrifices.

Israel had a similar celebration of the Lord's protection and deliverance.
Exodus 12:42  Because the Lord kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the Lord for the generations to come.

Happy Asparagus Day & Brother's Day & International Tiara Day

I made broccoli, cheese, potato soup a month or so ago and thought it might be very good substituting asparagus for broccoli.  I may make that with the substitution or Food.com has an Easy Potato Asparagus Soup that I may make, even though it's going to be 80 degrees all week.  Of course, asparagus is yummy roasted with oil, salt & pepper too.

My youngest daughter, Katherine, has a collection of tiaras that she used to wear.  She doesn't wear them much now; I guess she's grown out of that phase.  But I always think of her on International Tiara Day because she's the only one I know personally who ever wore a tiara in public.

When my kids and my friend Chrissy's kids were little, we saw "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" at a dinner theater and we bought the movie because we all like it so much.  At least one of her kids called the movie "Brother's Fight."  Well, we don't want to promote brothers fighting today but do celebrate Brother's Day by contacting a blood brother and/or a "brother from another mother," as my son, Dan, used to say about his friend, Stu.

Hebrews 2:11  Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family.  So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers (and sisters).

National Salad Month & National Barbecue Month

May is National Salad Month.  Check out Love & Lemons' 37 Best Salad Recipes.  Several of them sound really good.

It's also National Barbecue Month.  Taste of Home has 32 BBQ recipes that make me hungry just looking at them.

It's Sherlock Holmes Day & National Solitaire Day & National Vanilla Pudding Day

Activity suggestions for today:  play Solitaire and read or watch Sherlock Holmes while eating vanilla pudding.  Does anyone use real cards to play Solitaire anymore?  I've played on the computer so much I don't like to play Solitaire with physical cards now.

Proverbs 22:3  The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.

It's National Waiters & Waitresses Day, and National Strawberries & Cream Day, and National Notebook Day

Let's take a few minutes and say a prayer for the waiters and waitresses that have been left jobless during quarantine.

Galatians 6:2  Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

If you like strawberries this is a week you'll enjoy celebrating.  Lolly Jane has a delicious-sounding Strawberries and Cream recipe.  It's only four ingredients, all things you probably have on hand, except maybe strawberries.  The recipe is super easy and sounds so refreshing and yummy!  You have to try this one.

I do love notebooks and pens and pencils and office supplies.  Here's a peek at my unused notebook shelf.

It's Flower Day & Pick Strawberries Day

If you don't want to pick strawberries, the grocery store should have some.  (Tomorrow has a strawberry celebration too.)

Isaiah 40:8  The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.

It's Flower Day and Amanda, Brandon, Aubrey, Jackson, Tyler, and Makenzie sent me these pretty posies and a flower shaped card to celebrate.

Happy National Devil's Food Cake Day

For all you chocolate lovers out there, it's devil's food cake day.  Try Southern Living's Devil's Food Cake recipe.  If a cake is too much, try taste & tell's Devil's Food Cupcakes with Fluffy Frosting recipe.  There are some minor differences between the 2 recipes but they are very similar.

However, if you are not partial to chocolate, you can celebrate National Hamburger Month, National Barbecue Month, National Strawberry Month, or National Salad Month.

Proverbs 18:8  The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts.

It's Visit Your Relatives Day & National No Dirty Dishes Day & I Love Reese's Day

I lose on all 3 of these.  I'll have to find something else to celebrate today.

I don't plan to visit relatives.  Today is the first day of 10-hour days for work and relatives are too far away.

1 Corinthians 16:7  For I do not want to see you now and make only a passing visit; I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits.

If I had done the dishes last night, I could celebrate no dirty dishes day today.  But I didn't, so I can't.  I'll celebrate by doing dishes so maybe at some point there won't be any dirty dishes today.

Well, I do love Reese's but there are none in the house so I'll just have to celebrate this one at a later date.

How about you?

Here's a visit the relatives picture from 2017.

A gift from Abbie

It's National Cherry Cobbler Day & World Baking Day & National Walnut Day

We can knock out 2 days at one time!  Bake a cherry cobbler.  If you sprinkle some chopped walnuts in, you'll cover all 3.  I wonder if walnuts would taste good in a cherry cobbler?  Maybe they should be baked in banana bread instead.  If you need a recipe for an Easy Cherry Cobbler, check out the one at Life in the Lofthouse.  (It doesn't use many of the ingredients shown in the picture.)

Happy Sunday.
Psalm 19:1  The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of His hands.

It's Armed Forces Day and Wear Purple for Peace Day

No food suggestions for today, but at least you know what color clothes to wear.  If you don't have any purple clothes, improvise

Today, we acknowledge those who are in the military and their families.  When a person is in the military it isn't just them, it's their whole family.  Thank you for your devotion to us who are so often ungrateful and forgetful of your sacrifices.  Here's a verse to hold onto.

Deuteronomy 31:8  The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

Happy National Chocolate Chip Day & National Pizza Party Day!

Dinner pizza and chocolate chip dessert pizza today.  Or dinner pizza and munch chocolate chips for snacks during the day.  However you slice it, either choice sounds like a party.  Almost what I would choose for my birthday dinner if today was my birthday (which it's not).  Abbie's been working a lot and we all know days run into each other.  Someone at her word said it was the 15th and she told them it was my birthday.  She asked hubby what we were having for my birthday dinner and got him a little confused too.  You have to take your fun where you find it.

Proverbs 15:15b the cheerful heart has a continual feast.

Happy National Buttermilk Biscuit Day & National Strawberry Month & National Salad Month

My favorite buttermilk biscuits are at Bojangles.  You can get them plain, with country ham, sausage, or Cajun chicken filet, or as a Cheddar Bo.  All of them are good!
Road trip to the Bo's drive-thru!

I like strawberries and I like salad but I never had the two together until I moved to North Carolina.  Totally the Bomb has a recipe for Strawberry Spinach Salad with Honey Balsamic Dressing.  There are only 6 ingredients!  It's pretty sweet; well, we are in the South.

Genesis 1:12  The land produced vegetation:  plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.  And God saw that it was good.

Celebrate Eat What You Want Day and Hostess Cupcake Day

Isn't it fortunate that Eat What You Want Day is also Hostess Cupcake Day?  What are you going to eat today?

Matthew 6:25  "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Makenzie says, "Happy Hostess Cupcake Day!"

Happy Mother's Day to ladies everywhere!  Hope you enjoy your day, however you celebrate it.

Hopefully, offspring still living at home will honor mom by cleaning up their rooms today.

It's National Train Day & National Miniature Golf Day & Brunch for Lunch Day & Hurray for Buttons Day

Sadly, it's going to be a little chilly for playing miniature golf in NC this weekend, plus those facilities are still closed, I think.  This day needs to be moved to a warmer month anyway.

Also, sadly, most train day celebrations are canceled due to the Coronavirus quarantine but here are some suggestions for celebrating.  If you have a train set (maybe in the Christmas decorations?) you can set it up for some train fun.  Pretend you're taking a train ride.  What do you see?  Where are you going?  Play "we're taking a train ride and I see...."  Celebrate by playing Mexican Train dominoes.  Or pretend you and your housemates are cars on a train and dance in a Conga/Train line.  Listen to songs about trains or watch movies that involve trains like Murder on the Orient Express or The Polar Express.

Brunch for lunch should be easy to celebrate.  It can be as elaborate as omelets or as simple as cereal.

Make sure you count your buttons today.  We wouldn't want you to lose them during quarantine.

Read the account of Philip and the Ethiopian in Acts 8 and of Elijah in 2 Kings 2.  The Lord's "train" is supernaturally fast!

It's National Coconut Cream Pie Day & No Socks Day & Have a Coke Day

Coconut Cream Pie is one of Hubby's favorite pies.  Taste of Home has an Easy Coconut Cream Pie recipe if you are interested in making one.

I don't plan to make a pie, but no socks and a Coke sound pretty good.  I can picture a relaxing dessert time sitting in my recliner, sock-less, eating coconut cream pie and drinking Coke.  What a nice way to end a week.

Matthew 11:28  Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

It's National Tourism Day and National Day of Prayer

We can't celebrate National Tourism Day but we can pray that we will have that opportunity once again.

This global situation gives deeper meaning to James 4:13 - 15  Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money."  Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.  What is your life?  You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.  Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."

O Lord, have mercy on us.  We have not honored You as God.  We have not honored or believed Your word.  We have twisted Your truth to be about us.  Please forgive us, Father.  Turn our hearts back to You and give us the gift of repentance.  Our world needs healing and only You can do that.

2 Chronicles 7:14  If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Happy National Beverage Day & National Tourist Appreciation Day

Take some time to relax and enjoy a refreshing beverage today - like sweet tea or lemonade.

While you relax, think about how much you appreciated being a tourist in the past and how much you look forward to it in the future.  Think of those whose livelihood relies on tourism and pray for them during this time of shutdown.

Galatians 6:2  Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Happy Cinco de Mayo & National Hoagie Day & National Teacher's Day

Since it's Cinco de Mayo, it really is Taco Tuesday!  Just found this Taco Sloppy Joe recipe on Recipes That Crock.  It's made on the stove, not in the crockpot.

If you don't prefer tacos, have a hoagie to celebrate.

Be sure to thank a teacher, the ones working remotely with students and the ones working at home with their inmates.

John 14:26  But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Amanda said:  Today is National Hoagie Day, but since it is also Taco Tuesday and Cinco de Mayo, we are joining the Mexican state of Puebla and celebrating Zaragoza's unlikely victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 with a taco dinner. We created our hoagies and will build them with actual ingredients to enjoy eating this weekend

Celebrate Star Wars Day & National Orange Juice Day & International Respect for Chickens Day

May the 4th be with you.  That is so much fun to say.

But, this is the real force you need with you:
1 Corinthians 1:18  For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

I'm not a Star Wars fan (sorry Gibsons); I'm a Star Trek fan and a Whovian.  I saw the original first Star Wars movie made when it first came out in theaters (yes, I'm that old).  I think I lost interest when the 2nd one came out.  Is that the one in the desert?  It seemed boring.  Maybe I just need to watch them again.  Although, the movies seem confusing in a Doctor Who timey wimey kind of way since they decided to make newer movies that take place before the original.  I get a prequel, but they went overboard.

As for celebrating food and drink today, have some orange juice and eggs for breakfast or eat a juicy orange and a hard-boiled egg later on.  I think we should refrain from eating chicken today out of respect but eggs are okay; we don't want the chicken's hard work to go unappreciated.

In memory of Super Sonic

From Amanda:  Came down to a delicious breakfast made by Jackson just for me 😍 He even chose a Star Wars mug in honor of today

It's Lemonade Day & Wordsmith Day & National Raspberry Popover Day

Enjoy a nice glass of lemonade while you do a crossword or word search today.
Strengthen your Wordsmith abilities.
My friend, Chrissy, is always saying, "Use your words."  So use some sweet ones today because you may have to eat them tomorrow.

Proverbs 16:24  Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Vintage Mixer has a Raspberry Popover recipe to try.
But, if you don't like raspberry popovers, you can celebrate the month of May in these ways.
Date Your Mate Month

National Hamburger Month
National Salad Month and
National Strawberry Month

Celebrate World Tuna Day & Brothers and Sisters Day & Baby Day

Sounds like we will celebrate World Tuna Day with tuna casserole for dinner or maybe tuna sandwiches and soup.

Celebrate Brothers and Sisters Day by texting, calling, or thinking about your brothers and sisters today.

Romans 8:29  For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

If you don't have your own baby around to play with and enjoy, like Cat and Matt do, find some cute baby videos on YouTube to watch.

Happy May Day & National Chocolate Parfait Day

May Day is a celebration of Spring.  Dances, singing, and cake are usually part of the festivities.  Sounds good to me!

James 5:7  Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord's coming.  See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.

According to Simply Designing, "a parfait is created by layering different foods in a tall glass.  yogurt parfaits are often created with layers of yogurt, granola, and fruit.  A chocolate parfait is often made by layering chocolate mousse or chocolate pudding and whipped cream."
Simply Designing has a Chocolate Parfait recipe that sounds good.  My Recipes also has an easy Chocolate Parfait recipe to try.
